On the 5 October 2023, the General Manager of the Livestock Development Corporation (SODEPA), Mr KOULAGNA KOUTOU Denis, met Dr Richard MUNANG, Deputy Regional Director of the Africa Office of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), at SODEPA’s headoffice.
The UNEP Deputy Regional Director’s visit to the partner of the animal production sector (SODEPA) began with a private meeting between him and the company’s General Manager. This private audience between the two personalities then led to a plenary session with other members of top management.
Mr KOULAGNA KOUTOU Denis specifically spoke about the management and recycling of waste from the slaughterhouse in Yaounde and Douala, the management of fodder fields and the protection of biodiversity.
Dr Richard Munang spoke of the « opportunities to be exploited in the conversion of slaughterhouse waste into biogas and biofertiliser ».
One of the highlights of the visit was the presentation of a techno-economic study carried out by SODEPA in the recovery of slaughterhouse waste using the methanisation method.
A copy of the study was given to the United Nations expert alongside some SODEPA goodies.
The meeting ended with a family photo, followed by a tour of the Yaounde Slaughterhouse and Cold Store facility led by the Director of the Yaounde slaughterhouse and other senior management staff.
