On 9 November 2023, the Livestock Development Corporation(SODEPA) launched a training course for butchers and other members of its staff at the OREACA hotel behind the Omnisports stadium in Yaoundé, in order to build the capacity of its human resource in the domain of meat processing. Within the two days of training, participants were schooled on the history of the butcher trade, parts of a bovine animal, cutting tools, hygiene and food safety standards, cash management concepts and how to use Mon Ami le Boucher charter.

As a prelude to the imminent launch of the meat security stock and the forthcoming inauguration of the modern pilot butchery at Etoudi, SODEPA’s top management brought together several members of staff over a period of days, including chief butchers, apprentice butchers, commercial agents, sales agents, accountants and cashiers. The desire of the General Manager, Mr KOULAGNA KOUTOU Denis, as highlighted in this extract :  « learning and acquiring all the skills needed to embark on a career in the food industry », amply demonstrates the importance of having qualified staff to meet the needs of the general public in terms of quality of service in SODEPA butchers’ shops. The inaugural day was punctuated by various presentations by Mr Victor NGANKAM, master of butchery with 40 years of experience, as Heads from the Headoffice, namely the Deputy Sales Manager and his financial counterpart, as well as the Head of the Marketing Department. The second day of the launch was devoted to workshops and knowledge testing.

While reminding those present that the training will last for two months and will be replicated in other SODEPA units, the General Manager also urged his staff to be more meticulous and transparent in the performance of their daily duties.

Interviews and a family photo rounded off the official launch day.
