On Wednesday 16 November 2023, the Société de Développement et d’Exploitation des Productions Animales (SODEPA) launched the meat security stock and opened the pilot modern butcher’s shop « MON AMI LE BOUCHER » in Yaoundé. The ceremony took place at the Yaoundé cold store in Etoudi, in the presence of administrative and religious authorities and SODEPA staff.
After Ebolowa (Carrefour ELAT) in December 2021, a new pilot butcher’s shop was opened in the Etoudi district, in a place known as the cattle market, in the first half of November 2023. The authorities and administrative personalities invited for the occasion arrived at 10.40am. An ecumenical prayer of blessing was said, followed by a word from the deputy mayor, Mrs PALALOU MINDJIYAOUA.
One of the highlights of the event was the presentation of the warehouse and the process for conserving the meat security stock. This presentation was coordinated by the Director of the Yaoundé abattoir, DR SECKE CHRISTIAN, and the Head of the cold store, Mrs GOUFAN NICOLE.
« Our wish is that each region has a modern industrial slaughterhouse and a refrigerated warehouse », « within this new butcher’s shop, a cutting unit has been set up, you will have as from today, charcuterie « made in SODEPA », « I would also like to inform you that the Butcher’s shop of the Cité Verte, the Butcher’s shop of Ahala in Yaoundé, the Butcher’s shop of the Cité des Palmiers in Douala will soon be operational. « These are some extracts from the speech by the General Manager of SODEPA, Mr KOULAGNA KOUTOU DENIS.
The ceremony ended with the cutting of the ribbon to inaugurate the pilot modern butchery and the unveiling of the commemorative plaque. The guests were then able to sample meat matured in the butchery.
The opening of this butcher’s shop is a response to consumer demand for quality meat at competitive prices.
